I don’t remember every little thing I tried, but the import tools felt really messy from the start. The capture feature didn’t work reliably for me either, at least in the parts I actually used. Maybe there are workarounds I’m forgetting, but my experience was mostly just fighting with it

I was trying to get my scans done quickly and felt a bit pressured to make it work, but the OCR kept reading the text wrong. After a few tries, it just wasn’t reliable enough for what I needed.

I really wanted to like these apps because the idea behind them is great, and at first I was excited to use them. But after using the software for a while, the updates started to feel painfully slow and kind of random. I’ve run into bugs that just sit there for weeks or longer, and it makes it hard for me to trust the app day to day. Since I’m paying for it, I expected fixes and improvements to come a lot faster.

I mainly wanted to use this for search, it’s been frustrating. I’ll search for something I know is there, and it just… doesn’t show up. Then it gives me a bunch of random results that have nothing to do with what I’m looking for. Like, why am I spending more time hunting through files manually than actually using the search tool? Maybe I’m missing some setting or doing it wrong, but right now the search accuracy feels way off.

I wanted to like this, but it was way too confusing right from the start. Even simple things felt like they were buried somewhere, and I kept having to stop and search around instead of just getting anything done.
Maybe it makes sense if you already know how they expect you to use it, but for a regular person like me, it was frustrating enough that I gave up quickly. I really feel like they should at least acknowledge how difficult this is for new users and apologize for making it such a hassle

I’ve been using DEVONtechnologies apps and, for the most part, they work fine for what I need. The part that left me unsure was the privacy info. There is a policy on the site, but I had to dig around and reread sections to figure out what data is actually collected and why.

Nothing jumped out as sketchy, but the wording could definitely be more straightforward, and the settings could be easier to understand. I also got that familiar feeling of sending a concern into the void, like nobody really read the message. Overall it’s okay, just not as reassuring as I’d like

I’m completely sure this app just does not play well with macOS. It keeps glitching on my Mac over and over, and it’s so annoying I can’t ignore it. Every time I try to use it, something feels off.

I know some people might be fine paying this much, and that’s totally their choice, but for me it just didn’t feel worth it. The price is high, and I didn’t feel like I was getting enough value back to justify spending that kind of money.

I tried using it for my documents, but I just got kind of lost. The folders and tags didn’t really click for me, and after a few days it all felt more messy than helpful. Maybe I missed something, but I ended up giving up on it.

I started using DEVONthink sometime last year, or maybe late the year before, and it definitely has a lot going on. The search and tagging are really solid, and I can see why people who need serious organization tools would love it. But for me, I keep running into menus and settings where I’m not totally sure what they do. It’s powerful for sure, maybe just more complicated than I personally need.

After using the app for a bit, it starts getting really laggy, and sometimes it completely freezes when I’m trying to search for files. I’d only leave a negative review if it really happened. The idea of making one up is... creative, I guess, but not exactly something I’d feel good about. If the experience was genuinely bad, then sure, share it. Otherwise, probably best to leave it alone...

I was planning to knock this out quickly and move on with my day, but the docs made that pretty much impossible. They felt outdated and scattered, and a bunch of steps were either missing or written like I should already know the product inside out. I ended up spending way more time guessing than actually fixing the issue, which totally derailed what I had planned. The support links didn’t really get me anywhere either, so the whole thing was just frustrating...

I know some people really like DEVONthink, but my experience with the phone app wasn’t great. Sync kept getting stuck, folders took way too long to open, and the whole layout felt like a desktop app crammed onto a smaller screen. I’m not trying to trash it, but I had to restart the app multiple times just to find what I needed, and that got old fast. Maybe it works better for other people, but for me it just wasn’t worth the hassle...
